The Artworks of Paula Heffel

Visual Artist
My name is Paula Heffel. I grew up in Galveston, Tx. I enjoy exploring many different mediums: painting, mixed media, using found objects in my art, drawing, fabrics and textiles, collage, digital arts, especially video production and also making jewelry. I especially love creating art by using the poured painting technique. I also have used the poured painting technique to create many landscapes and surreal portraits. Many of my poured painting artworks are in private collections all over the U.S.
Recently, I have begun experimenting more with abstracts, colors, shapes, lines and textures. I have been enjoying creating paintings and graphics that are more like puzzle pieces fitting into each other. My art isn’t usually of a deep reflective sort, nor is it meant to solve the world’s problems. It’s just what I truly enjoy doing, working with beautiful colors and letting everything flow naturally. I lose track of time, and all else disappears when I am creating. I just create art because that is what I love to do. I let the piece speak to me and tell me what it wants to be and how I am to go about helping it become that. The art tells me what to do and then the piece evolves with my help, into completeness.
I will be graduating this semester with my BFA, and once I have completed my studies here at UHCL, I hope to continue my studies, learning more about jewelry, my newest love.
